Tsuritama (つり球)

As soon as I first saw art and merchandise of Tsuritama years ago, I knew I would fall in love with it! Tsuritama has really become one of my favorite series I've ever seen, and time and time again its colorful atmosphere and characters brings me back for rewatches. The anime offers a light and comedic storyline that along with fishing, teaches the viewer about the budding friendship of Yuki, an anxious human, and Haru, an energetic alien. From learning how to fish to save the world, to experiencing Enoshima's culture, Tsuritama is indeed a colorful summertime treat that I can't recommend enough!

As Miss Beelzebub Likes
(ベルゼブブ嬢のお気に召すまま)

Set in a sugary-sweet version of hell, As Miss Beelzebub Likes is at the very least a dessert for the viewer! Even just looking at it you can tell it's utterly sweet from its art and coloring. As the anime is an iyashikei, the plot revolves around the daily lives of Beelzebub, Mullin, and their friends in Pandemonium, so the show is quite slow... For anyone looking for a dessert for the eyes however, please check out this fluffy and cozy show!

Lucky Star (らき☆すた)

Ah! Lucky Star is a staple in the anime community, especially if you're an older fan! I doubt anyone here hasn't seen it yet, but if you haven't Lucky Star offers a slow-paced, but feel-good vibe combined with it's moe characters and stories. If you're a fan of a certain other light novel that was popular at the time, you'll be happy to see all of the references to it in Lucky Star.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (さよなら絶望先生)

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, put simply... is the perfect anime for me! I can't get enough of anything this anime offers, from it's experimental animation style thanks to SHAFT and Kumeta Koji, to it's humor and characters and even music! I can't describe how in love with this anime I am. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is honestly my favorite anime I've ever come across, and it's amplified by the anime's Taisho-esque art style! I can't stress enough how much I recommend watching this if you're a fan of dark or interesting styles.

Serial Experiments Lain
(シリアルエクスペリメンツレイン)

While it can be a bit of a hard watch due to it's mind-screw/psychological genre, Serial Experiments Lain is an anime that really makes you think. It's interestering how this anime made in 1998 can capture how much the internet can influence people's actions/thoughts, even if the ideas of the future internet are different, it's a bit eerie how close some ideas have come about 26 years later. I really enjoy how late 90's-early 2000's Sci-Fi and cyberpunk media looks (Think JSRF or GITS), so for anyone who wants a deep dark and confusing story, Lain is for you! Remember, no matter where you go, everyone's connected.

Mononoke (モノノ怪)

Even though Mononoke is a spin-off of Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales, the anime is a mesmerizing show about the Medicine Seller investigating ayakashi in a world reminiscent of an art-deco painting. I remember seeing it long ago, and I was immediately pulled in by the show's busy and flat style. As I've mentioned a lot of times, I'm a huge fan of anime with interesting styles, and Mononoke is no different! There's always something beautiful to look at along with how interesting the ayakashi and characters surrounding them. From Zashiki-warashi to Noppera-bou, Nue to Bakeneko (a call-back to ASHT), Mononoke is an anime you can't miss if you're a fan of historical fiction and folktales.

Alien 9 (エイリアン9)

Alien 9 is a lesser-known OVA series about a trio of sixth graders fighting agaiinst aliens in their school. While short and unassuming, Alien 9 is actually quite the psychological adventure despite it's innocent facade. For anyone who was a fan of Serial Experiments Lain, I recommend watching this OVA or reading the manga for a short, but still enjoyable experience.

I'm Gonna Be an Angel!
(天使になるもんっ!)

A severely underrated anime about an angel girl falling in love with and "messing up" a high school boy's life ^^; It's a bit unassuming due to the basic storyline and how Yuusuke is treated in the earlier episodes, but the anime makes up for it with it's adorable visuals! Everything is so brightly colored and sweet-tasting...almost a bit like fruit candy with a slightly nostalgic taste ^^ Because it was animated by Pierrot also, it's reminiscent of all the magical girl series of the time, especially with how darling Noelle is! Overall, Tenshi ni Narumon is a sweet and light-hearted romcom that I think is best enjoyed with friends or accompanied by any desserts :D

Hetalia (ヘタリア)

I'm honestly a bit embarrased sharing this, but I'm actually a bit of a fan of Hetalia! Its short-form style, combined with its comedy and characters really leaved me coming back again and again to watch it! I'm happy that it's also helped me with history tests, even if in Hetalia events are a bit exaggerated ^^; Honestly Hetalia brings a smile to my face no matter how many times I watch it, and the dub multiplies that joy due to the more meta humor westerners like me can understand ^^; Please check it out if you haven't! And if you do remember Hetalia from your youth, maybe give it another chance? It's still really funny :] (in my opinion, at least.)
